Bodo Schwabe is a PostDoc Researcher at CAPA, focused on dark matter, axions and numerical simulations.

Abstract: On linear scales much larger than the typical extend of galaxies the standard model of cosmology with cold dark matter and a cosmological constant can reproduce observational data with high precision. But there are potential difficulties on galactic scales. In this 50 minutes master level lecture I will present the main concepts of fuzzy dark matter, a well motivated dark matter candidate that reproduces the successes of cold dark matter on large scales, while implying unique observable features like solitons and interference patterns within halos and filaments. During the lecture I will derive the equations of motion governing the evolution of fuzzy dark matter, concentrating on their physical implications. While conceptionally simply, solving these non-linear equations requires intensive numerical computations. Alongside the theoretical considerations I will therefore present numerical methods that have been used to analyse non-linear dynamics of fuzzy dark matter on (sub-)galactic scales

Charla de Maurizio Giannotti sobre axiones

Maurizio Giannotti is a Physics Professor at Barry University, Fulbright visitor at CAPA. Research in astroparticle physics, axions and axion like particles.

Abstract: The research on axions has gained great attention in the last decade. We are finally reaching the experimental capabilities to detect axions in the most motivated parameter regions and the University of Zaragoza is playing a major role in this effort. In this talk, I will present an overview of the strong CP problem and of the axion solution. I will emphasize the phenomenological aspects and in particular try to justify the selection of physically motivated axion parameter regions. I will emphasize the impact of axions on stellar evolution and the experimental potential to detect them in the near future.

Seminario CAPA online by Violeta Gonzalez Perez

Seminario CAPA online by Violeta Gonzalez Perez:

Star forming emission line galaxies at z~1 as cosmological tracers

Abstract:
Current and future cosmological surveys (SDSS-IV/eBOSS, DESI, Euclid) are targeting star forming galaxies emission line galaxies at z~1. These galaxies are dominated by [OII] emitters when the selection is done using optical instruments. This talk will start with an overview of the different techniques to study the formation and evolution of galaxies computationally to then focus on the modelling of star forming emission line galaxies (ELGs). Using a state-of-the-art model of galaxy formation and evolution we explore the global properties of [OII] emitters, including their large scale environment. Model galaxies are selected with cuts in different properties such that the samples can be directly compared with a range of both narrow and wide observational surveys: DEEP2, VVDS, eBOSS and DESI. The selected [OII] emitters are hosted by haloes with halo masses above 10^10.3 Msun/h, with ~90% of them being central star-forming galaxies. The predicted mean halo occupation distributions of [OII] emitters has a shape typical of that inferred for star-forming galaxies, with the contribution from central galaxies being far from the canonical step function. The mean halo occupation distribution for central [OII] emitters can be described as the sum of an asymmetric Gaussian for disks and a step function for spheroids, which plateaus below unity. The large scale environment of model galaxies is obtained for fixed number density samples, using a velocity-shear-tensor and a tidal-tensor algorithms. About half of the fixed number density ELGs live in filaments, following the distribution of SFR selected galaxies with the same number density, and a third in cosmic sheets. SFR cut selected ELGs and general galaxies with equal number density, have the same large scale bias but their clustering below separations of 1Mpc/h are different. Although as a first approximation the samples that will be targeted by DESI, 4MOST, MSE, etc. are simply star forming galaxies, the model ELGs do trace a slightly different large scale environment.

Seminario CAPA online: News on the muon g-2: an informal discussion

Abstract:
In the light of the recent experimental results on the muon g-2, we would like to scrutinize the Standard Model contributions, comment about its weak and strong points, and openly discuss with the Zaragoza group about possible avenues to explain the apparent anomaly.

Ilya L. Shapiro, «Local and nonlocal models of quantum gravity» 🗓

The main difficulty of perturbative quantum gravity (QG) in D=4 dimensions is the conflict between renormalizability and unitarity of the theory. The simplest version of QG is based on General Relativity and turns out to be nonrenormalizable. One can construct renormalizable and even superrenormalizable versions of QG by introducing higher derivatives. In the local versions of higher derivative models of QG there are always unphysical higherderivative massive unphysical ghosts. One can construct non-polynomial in derivatives (or, equivalently, nonlocal) models of QG, which have no ghosts at the tree level. However, taking loop corrections into account one meets infinite amount of ghost-like complex states. The theories of both local and nonlocal types attracted a lot of attention in the last years and our purpose it to present a brief review of the problems and perspectives of these models, according to the present-day understanding.
