4th edition of “School on Underground Physics: Theory and experiments” (SoUP2026) from 26 to 30 October, 2026

The 4th edition of the International INFN “School on Underground Physics: Theory and experiments” (SoUP2026) is addressed to PhD students, post-docs and young researchers involved in the field of Underground (or Underwater) Physics: Neutrinos, Dark Matter, and other rare-event searches.  This year the School is organised by INFN-Bologna, and it will take place from October 26th to October 30th, 2026 at the CeUB center in Bertinoro (FC, Italy), a small Middle Age village 60 km far away from Bologna. The School is organised with lectures, and a hands-on session in Statistics. It also includes a speed talk event, where the participants can briefly introduce themselves, a poster session to present their current research, and an outreach event for the general public.

  • Neutrino Phenomenology. Lecturer: Francesco Terranova (University & INFN. Milano Bicocca)
  • Axion Phenomenology and Detection. Lecturer: Caterina Braggio (University & INFN. Padova)
  • Liquid Scintillators and Water Cherenkov Detectors. Lecturers: Barbara Caccianiga (INFN. Milano)
  • Noble Liquid Detectors. Lecturer: Elena Aprile (Columbia University, New York)
  • Solid State Detectors. Lecturer: Raimund Strauss (Technical University of Munich)
  • Statistics (Principles and Hands-on session). Lecturer: Robert Hammann (MPIK, Heidelberg) – TBC
  • Material Screening. Lecturer: Susana Cebrián Guajardo (Universidad de Zaragoza)

Registration is now open, registered people will be contacted by the CeUB Administration with the details for the payment:
– deadline for the Early registration fee of 650 euro: June 15 2026
– deadline for the Standard registration fee of 700 euro: July 15 2026.
The fee covers:
  • admission to all lectures;
  • lodging in a double room for 5 nights, from Sunday evening to Friday morning (+50 euro for single room, if available);
  • breakfast, lunch, and two coffee breaks per day (Mon-Fri);
  • the social dinner;
  • welcome party on Monday evening;
  • shuttle from/to the railway station in Bologna.
