Hunting for the axion with a giant magnet

Great news for BabyIAXO.

The German Research Foundation (DFG) has approved €6 million for the construction of its magnet system, a key component of the experiment that will be installed at DESY.

The 10-meter-long superconducting magnet will allow BabyIAXO to track the Sun for several hours a day in the search for solar axions. Detecting these particles would be an extraordinary result, both for particle physics and because of their possible connection to dark matter.

BabyIAXO is also an important step towards IAXO, the future International Axion Observatory.
