@FlipPhysics workshop

The @FlipPhysics workshop seeks to bring together the community of physicist working in the areas of Nuclear, Particle Physics and its Applications, especially women, and also (under)-graduate, PhD students, and young researchers, who have the opportunity to be introduced to several scientific topics through (mostly) women who have been successful in the field.
It will take place in Valencia on March 21-25th at IFIC: https://indico.ific.uv.es/event/6372/overview
There is no fee for invited participants/PhD/master/bachelor’s degree students.
The deadline for abstract submission (talk or poster) is January 17th.
Registration is now open up to March 15th.

Bodo Schwabe is a PostDoc Researcher at CAPA, focused on dark matter, axions and numerical simulations.

Abstract: On linear scales much larger than the typical extend of galaxies the standard model of cosmology with cold dark matter and a cosmological constant can reproduce observational data with high precision. But there are potential difficulties on galactic scales. In this 50 minutes master level lecture I will present the main concepts of fuzzy dark matter, a well motivated dark matter candidate that reproduces the successes of cold dark matter on large scales, while implying unique observable features like solitons and interference patterns within halos and filaments. During the lecture I will derive the equations of motion governing the evolution of fuzzy dark matter, concentrating on their physical implications. While conceptionally simply, solving these non-linear equations requires intensive numerical computations. Alongside the theoretical considerations I will therefore present numerical methods that have been used to analyse non-linear dynamics of fuzzy dark matter on (sub-)galactic scales

Hands on Dark Matter

Inauguración Hands on DM

Yamir Moreno, nombrado APS Fellow

El director del BIFI, investigador del CAPA y miembro del Departamento de Física Teórica Yamir Moreno ha sido electo Fellow de la American Physical Society (APS), “for seminal contributions to interdisciplinary aspects of statistical and nonlinear physics in the areas of complex systems and networks, including spreading and synchronization dynamics, as well as for leadership in community building”. ¡Nuestra más sincera enhorabuena a nuestro compañero!

Charla de Maurizio Giannotti sobre axiones

Maurizio Giannotti is a Physics Professor at Barry University, Fulbright visitor at CAPA. Research in astroparticle physics, axions and axion like particles.

Abstract: The research on axions has gained great attention in the last decade. We are finally reaching the experimental capabilities to detect axions in the most motivated parameter regions and the University of Zaragoza is playing a major role in this effort. In this talk, I will present an overview of the strong CP problem and of the axion solution. I will emphasize the phenomenological aspects and in particular try to justify the selection of physically motivated axion parameter regions. I will emphasize the impact of axions on stellar evolution and the experimental potential to detect them in the near future.

XLVIII International Meeting on Fundamental Physics 2021

IMFP

The International Meeting on Fundamental Physics is the Spanish Symposium on high energy particle physics with longest tradition. Since its creation in 1973, it has been organized on an annual basis by each of the main Spanish groups in turn. Its scientific programs have included dedicated reviews with the latest results in the fields of particle and astroparticle physics and cosmology.
In the 2021 edition, organized by the Centro de Astropartículas y Física de Altas Energías (CAPA) of Universidad de Zaragoza, sessions are devoted to review the latest experimental results and their theoretical and phenomenological implications. The program also includes sessions on neutrino physics, dark matter searches, ultra-high energy gamma and cosmic ray physics, gravitational waves and cosmology. Dedicated sessions summarize current initiatives on experiments beyond colliders and the status of ongoing and planned future large facilities. A session is devoted to discuss the Spanish scientific policy and strategy in particle physics
